Capsule Essay: Maybe it had something to do with Reba Paeff Mirsky's book Thirty-One Brothers and Sisters; maybe it had more to do with weekly outings with Ron Ely; maybe it was stolen glances at Cornel Wilde running for his life (and eating raw snake) in The Naked Prey at the drive-in where I was supposed to be asleep in the back of my folks' station wagon; whatever the reason, at age seven my most cherished dream was to run naked through the jungles of Africa, swinging on vines, observing wildlife, living in a mud hut amongst the natives, and learning to properly wield a spear. My life's ambitions have changed; even so, I occasionally pine for adventure in that great continent—though now I'd probably opt for more clothes. All those tse-tse flies, you know.
About This Site: Dave Bastian dot com is the online portfolio/playground of—you guessed it—Dave Bastian. The site launched at the beginning of 1998 and operated pretty much continuously till 2004, when it fell on hard times, was much neglected, and began collecting cobwebs and dust bunnies. It's currently being refurbished.
